Track Google AdSense Clicks via Google Analytics - Free AdSense Tracker

There have been 3rd party javascripts that track adsense clicks out for a while, but no free ones to my knowledge that track clicks on Firefox. Until now.

This free script integrates with Google Analytics to allow you to track your adsense clicks.

This tracking is done through "Goals". A goal is a way of tracking when a website visitor does something you want - Buy an item, submit a contact form, or in our case click an adsense ad.

Create a goal: To create a goal you assign it a URL. This url doesn't have to exist, as the javascript will trigger it.
In the Goal URL field, enter "/asclick" and "AdClick" for the goal name.

Google Adsense Tips and Tools Collection

Google Adsense is an amazing contextual advertising program that lets you earn revenue from your site by a variety of revenue generating programs. Pay per click ads, Adsense for search, referrals for Firefox with Google toolbar, Picassa, Google Pack and the adsense program itself. This is a compilation of common Google tips and tools to make more money from Google Adsense.

Google AdSense joins Twitter

If you haven’t noticed on the Google AdSense blog, AdSense now has their own Twitter account where they will be tweeting on all things AdSense. So far they have highlighted some things previously featured on the blog, but also have highlighted a forum thread where publishers share some of their AdSense tips.

They only have 6 tweets so far, but hopefully they will become more active. I think the most valuable thing the AdSense twitter account could do is alert publishers when there are any issues - whether it is when stats are delayed or when access into the control panel is suffering from an unscheduled downtime. Right now, I am doing that for the many publishers who follow me

They only have 105 followers so far, so if you are on Twitter, go and follow @adsense… and follow me @jenstar too :) @adsense only follows a couple of the official Google Twitter accounts though, so don’t be surprised if they aren’t following you back. They do request @replies though, but I wonder how long it will be before their @replies are saturated with “I got my account suspended and I didn’t do anything wrong!” type of tweets!

Don’t really know what Twitter is or how to use it? I have some Twitter related blog posts over on JenniferSlegg.com:

Google AdSense Charts and Graphs

Now that AdSense allows for reporting per channel, I figured it would be useful to chart the data in a multidimensional line chart. So this free tool allows you to do just that. Currently it offers eight different types of charts for your data:

Google Adsense Says Goodbye To Video Units Feature

Google AdSense is eliminating its video units feature, which allows publishers to show YouTube content and video ads on their pages. Google says that by the end of April, the feature will be fully eliminated for existing AdSense clients and that new clients of the revenue sharing ad program will no longer be given the option to place video ads on their pages through the program. Publishers can still display video content on their pages by pulling embed codes directly from YouTube.

Unsurprisingly, Google says it eliminated the video ads because of poor performance. It is difficult to figure out a sustainable ad model for video, which is why pre-rolls remain more common. But the problem with video ads may not be the ad unit itself but but the underlying content. Brand advertisers don’t want their names associated with random words spoken in videos. You simply cannot efficiently and consistently target ads based on three words in a video. For instance, if someone is watching a clip of “Snakes on a Plane,” it’s probably not the best place to put a travel ad. And search marketers can find better places to put contextual ads. Clarification: The video units are not the same as AdSense for Video. Rather, they are video commercials that are served through YouTube. So my critique above of contextual text advertising overlayed onto regular video content does not apply in this instance.

It seems this latest announcement is part of a growing trend of Google axing programs in AdSense. Google recently pulled the plug on its Google Radio Ads and was looking to sell off its Google Radio Automation software business. That news came less than a month after Google decided to bail on selling print ads. We hate to say we told you so but we saw the writing on the wall about adding video ads to AdSense awhile ago.

Google AdSense is one of the easiest ways to monetize your blog, but adding it to WordPressWordPress reviews isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Many people don’t know where to put the code or how to keep track of it. Luckily there are lots of plugins that can simplify the process as well as provide more flexibility. Here are eight Google AdSense plugins for WordPress 2.5 and above.

As always, don’t install all of these unless you want to decrease your blog’s response time.

Google's AdSense a bonanza for some Web sites

LOS ANGELES — Canadian software developer and part-time humorist Eric Giguère made fun of the avalanche of Internet arthritis drug offers on his Web site last year. For his efforts, he received a $350 check from Internet search giant Google.
Giguère has one of those ubiquitous "Ads by Google" links on his site, offering ads the search giant considers of interest to readers. You might think that people rarely click on them, but they do — and often.

"For my own, personal humor writing, I got paid," Giguère says. "It certainly opened my eyes to the possibilities that were out there."

Google Adsense CSRF hole

It doesn’t seem like you’re a web security researcher these days unless you find a security hole in Google. So I had 5 minutes spare whilst drinking my brew to find a hole in Google Adsense. I’ve reported the problem to Google and I won’t release the specific details but if you’re creative you might be able to find the poc.

Google Adsense has no CSRF protection in certain areas, it is possible for a remote attacker to do all sorts of nasty stuff like change the address details of your adsense account. I’ve tested it on my own account and I successfully appended “Test” on my address.

The poc will automatically log you onto your account and browse the Adsense site “as you” before finally posting an update to your address.

google adsense sparklines

since a couple of weeks, the infosthetics website contains a sparkline diagram of its relative daily Google Adsense earnings, updated hourly. in contrast to the quite static "unique visitors" graph, this sparkline is more volatile & shows more complex patterns that are interesting to grasp. it is loosely based on a script that creates an Adsense RSS feed. instead of a RSS file, it now parses the data into a sparkline.
for those wanting to have their own Adsense sparklines on their website, the source code (PHP) can be downloaded here. one also needs the sparkline PHP library & some basic knowledge of crontab on your webserver to set up the automatic hourly execution of the script.
but most importantly, one must first kindly ask Google Adsense permission for its use! note that this display is in accordance to the Google Adsense policy, as it does not disclose the earnings directly, but only shows its relative fluctuations. see more information about this issue after the break.

Earnings Review: Analysts Play Down Google AdSense Revenue Slide

It was a small but notable part of Google’s Q1 lackluster earnings report yesterday afternoon: Revenue from the AdSense program slid 3 percent from the prior year’s period and 3 percent compared to Q408. While most analysts skipped over AdSense in their morning reports, three analysts I spoke to said they didn’t find much cause for concern there. AdSense’s declines were “not an issue. The AdSense business is being impacted by quality clean-up—i.e. removing some partners, weak partner performance (i.e. AOL (NYSE: TWX) & Ask.com). The macro [problems are ] hitting partners more than Google (NSDQ: GOOG), and hitting display (AdSense for content) more than search.”
The analyst also pointed out that Google is still gaining the share of overall search, so some of it is coming from AdSense for search partners. Analysts expect AdSense to return to growth as display ramps up with DoubleClick integration and the new Google ad exchange product.

Other Programs Besides AdSense

Yahoo and MSN have similar programs, although those programs aren't as well-developed as Google AdSense and there aren't as many available advertisers to display ads on your site. The fundamentals for making money are the same. You still need plenty of traffic, you still need high-paying ads, and you still need to design your site to harmonize with the ads to get people to click.

Google AdSense Payments

Google will not issue an AdSense payment until your earnings exceed $100. Unfortunately, there are loads of Google AdSense Forum entries about website operators who accumulated $90 or more in click through earnings only to get banned from Google and not get paid anything at all before they ever reached $100. This may be because Google doesn't take a close look to see if you're complying with their guidelines until it comes time to pay you. So yes, there's a lot more to the story than meets the eye.

Prerequisites for Making Money with AdSense

To make money with Google AdSense you need plenty of traffic coming in to your site or there won't be anyone to click the ads. Website promotion techniques, especially search engine optimization and article marketing will bring more traffic to your site. You also need to have content that will attract the ads with the highest Pay Per Click (PPC) rate that are relevant to that content. Then, you need to lay out your web pages so the ads blend in with your Web site. Studies have revealed that people who visit sites that contain ads that use colors that are not in harmony with the actual Web site tend to develop "ad blindness". Meaning no matter how much traffic comes into your site, chances are no one will click the ads because they'll be ignoring them. If no one clicks, you make nothing.

Making Money from Your Website with Google AdSense

Google AdSense is the Google program where you can host pay-per-click ads on your Web site. When someone clicks an ad, you earn money. Simple as that.

Is it really as easy to make money with Google AdSense as many would lead you to believe? Now that I've become heavily involved with managing Google AdSense programs for my clients, I can see it's not all play and no work.

Get in the game with AdSense for Games

Do you develop or publish web-based games? If so, you're contributing to a growing trend - according to comScore, over 25% of Internet users play online games every week, which is over 200 million users worldwide. As a beta user of AdSense for Games, you can display video ads, image ads, or text ads within your online games to earn revenue. You'll be able to show these ads in placements you define, such as interstitial frames before a game, after a level change, or when a game is over. Members of our AdWords team will sell your in-game ad placements directly to top brand advertisers, and you'll also see contextually targeted text and image ads based on content and demographic information. In addition, you'll be able to control the ads you see on your pages using our filtering options.

Here's a quick video to give you a better idea of what games are part of our network and how advertisers can use this medium to reach their target audience:

Microsoft opens up its answer to Google AdSense

Microsoft on Wednesday opened its PubCenter advertising service up for public beta testing, providing more of an alternative to Google's AdSense and Yahoo Publisher Network technology that places ads on publishers' sites.

All the services scrutinize the content on a Web site and place advertisements the service deems to be relevant to that content. As with ads on search sites, the advertiser pays only when a reader clicks on one of the ads, and revenue is shared with the publisher and the company operating the ad service.

Kevin McCabe, senior product manager of PubCenter, announced the move at the AdSpace conference Wednesday. People can sign up for the beta service at the PubCenter site, though it's only open to people in the United States at present.

Click-through rates on such services typically are far lower than for ads on search engines. But the technology still is significant, particularly during the recession, in part because advertisers can bid for keywords and limit their investments only to areas where they see a return.

Google AdSense: Facts, FAQs and Tools

Google AdSense is probably one of the most popular revenue generators in the Web. We hear the stories about bloggers-genies, who manage to turn their blogs into cash machines overnight. However, it’s not that simple to find the actual tips, which stick to Google policies, might increase your revenues and don’t try to trick out the readers of your weblog.

We’ve spent several hours, trying to find out, what might increase your Google AdSense income and which tools you can use to observe and track your revenues. We’ve selected the key-points of successful stories and useful tips as well as Google AdSense sites and services you can use on a daily basis. Let’s take a look.

Things You Probably

Maximum 2 referral button per product per page

With the launch of the google adsense referral program, you are allowed to put only 2 referral buttons for adsense referral, adwords referral, Google pack and Firefox with google toolbar referral. Update: This feature is closing Aug 2008.

Do not run competitive contextual text ad or search services on the same site

which offer Google Adsense competition in their field. Never try to create link structures resembling the adsense ads. Never use other competitive search tools on the same pages which have Adsense powered Google search. They do allow affiliate or limited-text links. Update: Google has allowed you to run contextual advertising like Yahoo ads, Chitika etc provided the ads do not resemble Adsense ads.

Never change the Adsense code

There are enough means of adsense optimization & customizations available to change the colour, background or border to suit your needs. Do whatever you want to do outside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code. They know it when you do. The search code has more limitations to colour and placement, but you should adhere to the rules. The code may stop working and violates the TOS.

Never click your own adsense ads or get them clicked for whatever reason

You know this one very well. This is a surefire way to close you Adsense account. Never tell your office associates or friends to click on them. Keep a check if your family or children are busy increasing your income by clicking your ads and indirectly trying to stop your income. Dont even think of offering incentives for clicks, using automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. Adsense is very smart to detect fraudulent clicks. Check the ads which appear on your pages by the Google Preview tool if required.

Use Site Build It! - A Web Host Made for AdSense

This is a revolutionary web host like no other. I use it for my site, flat-stomach-exercises.com, and after only 11 months the site was earning over $700 per month for AdSense alone.

Two years after launch, the total monthly earnings shot up to $2,000 to $2,500.

Today, the site continues to earn money from AdSense yet I have no products to sell. I'm simply offering information on a topic I know a lot about and SBI showed me how to rank high in the search engines for various keyword phrases. Over 90% of traffic comes from the free search engines.

The reason SBI is different from the other do-it-yourself hosts is that first it provides all the web page building and marketing help all in one place. Your domain registration, web hosting and marketing help come with the price..

Creating Your Website for AdSense

Before you even begin your site, make sure you've come up with a topic that you feel you know plenty about. That way it will be easiest to write a lot of content.

The more content you have, the better chance you have getting accepted into the program. Also, the more content, the greater the earning potential. AdSense is nothing but a numbers game. If you want to make a lot of money, prepare to write a lot of content.

How Much Can I Earn With AdSense

Google does not disclose exactly how much you'll earn per ad that is clicked.

The commission you receive per click depends on how much advertisers are paying Google for the particular ad. You will earn a share of that amount. I've heard of earnings anywhere from 2 cents to $15 per click.

So it is logical to believe that keyword phrases like debt free, employment, make money, mp3, sex, etc. will earn you more per click since these are highly competitive keywords that are searched for quite a bit on the web.

Advertisers generally pay more for popular terms because they are searched for more.

Even though Google will not reveal how much you are earning for each ad that is clicked from your site, you can still login to your account at any time and see the total amount of revenue you've generated that day, week, month, year, etc.

For example, if you see that you've made $12.60 today from 9 clicks then you can calculate that your average click-thru commission was $1.40 per click. That's as detailed as their stats will get. Also remember, that's only an average. You won't know how much each specific ad brought in.

The amount you'll earn also depends largely on the amount of targeted traffic you receive to your own site, how well the ads match your audience's interests, the placement of the ads on your pages, and of course the amount you receive per click.

Ideally, you should create a site on a topic you know a lot about. That way you'll have a much easier time creating a generous amount of content on that subject.

Filter Google AdSense Ads By Category

The Google AdSense Blog announced they are beta testing a new feature for publishers that allow them to filter ads based on category. So if publishers don't want ads that are about dating, religion or "get rich quick" type of ads, they can block those ads from showing on their site by blocking the whole category.

Sounds wonderful, doesn't it? In fact, They shared a screen shot that details the various categories. In addition, it even shows you how much money you are making from each category. This way, you don't block your most profitable category.

Hack Against ISP Hijacks Bank, Google Adsense

Hackers hijacked a major Brazilian ISP this month in a sophisticated attack that silently served up malicious software and phishing scams to more than a million customers.

According to Brazilian news outlet Globo.com, unknown attackers hijacked the domain name system (DNS) records for NET Virtua, a broadband provider that serves at least 1.4 million customers in the region.

NET Virtua's DNS records reportedly were hijacked on April 11, so that customers who visited any site that ran Google Adsense content were redirected to a site that tried to install and run a Java applet that in turn installed a Trojan horse program.

Google Banning AdSense Publishers For Not Updating Privacy Policies

Ever since May 2008, when Google began supporting third-party cookies as part of the DoubleClick acquisition, Google has been asking AdSense publishers to update their privacy policies to include language that third-party cookies are in fact utilized. Then, more recently, Google started behavioral targeting ads and asked publishers again to update their privacy policies.
